1955 Rolex Men's Oyster Precision Ref.6480 Honeycomb Explorer Dial 😊
explanation
This is a wonderful example of a Rolex Oyster Ref. 6480 manufactured in 1955.
Not only does this Rolex Oyster have the rare and highly valuable "honeycomb" type dial, but it also has the "Explorer" 9/3/6 dial configuration, making it a collector's dream watch.
The steel case and bezel are in very good condition with light wear from age.
The original "honeycomb" dial is in gorgeous condition (unrestored) although it shows light aging.
The dial features raised gold spearhead batons, numerals on all four sides and gold dagger hands.
Very high grade 17 jewel movement has been fully serviced by a watchmaker.
Comes with a new very high quality Hirsch strap and stainless steel buckle.
Case
The case size is 34mm wide excluding the steel Rolex Oyster screw-down crown and 43mm long including the lugs.
On the inside of the caseback, all markings are expected to be correct.
Montre Rolex SA Geneva Swiss, patented, stainless steel, model reference number 6480, III.55 (produced in the second quarter of 1955)
Dial
The original cream colored dial is very beautiful with a golden patina that has aged over time.
The dial is inscribed "Rolex Oyster Shock Resistant Swiss."
Movement
The movement is signed: Montreux Rolex SA Geneva Swiss 17 jewels
Box and accessories
As with many vintage watches that are over 60 years old, the original certificates and boxes have been lost or discarded over the years.
However, even though this watch does not have the original box or certificate, the watch, reference numbers, marks, signatures and hallmarks are all correct, indicating that this watch dates to circa 1955.
