1959 Rolex Men's Oyster Perpetual Ref.6565 Tropical /Gilt Dial
explanation
A magnificent example of a Rolex Oyster Perpetual made in 1959.
This model's shiny black gold dial has cracked over the years, giving it a very striking and unusual appearance.
I've never seen anything quite as nice as this, and I think collectors will love it because it's different.
The stainless steel 34mm Oyster case is in very good condition and has not been polished.
The original (unrestored) dial is in good condition and features raised gold baton and gold dauphine hands.
Comes with new high quality Hirsch straps and buckles.
Case
The stainless steel case is in good condition with some normal aging wear.
The case size excluding the Rolex winding crown is 34mm.
On the inside of the caseback, all markings are expected to be correct.
Montreux Rolex SA, Geneva, Switzerland, stainless steel, model number 6565 and I.59, indicating production date 1st quarter 1959
There are also many service marks over the years.
Dial
A rare original piece from the 1950s.
The dial is signed:
Rolex, Oyster Perpetual, Officially Certified Chronometer, Swiss
Movement
High quality automatic movement in very good condition and fully serviced.
The movement is signed: Rolex Perpetual, automatic
It also still has the Rolex winding crown.
Box and accessories
As with many vintage watches that are over 60 years old, the original certificates and boxes have been lost or discarded over the years.
However, even though this watch does not have the original box or certificate, we can determine that this watch, its reference numbers, marks, signatures and hallmarks are all correct and date to circa 1959.
