Vintage 1953 Rolex "Everest Explorer" Oyster Perpetual Shock Resistance REF. 6298
Description of item
A stunning, pristine Rolex Everest Explorer watch from 1953.
The Rolex Explorer was introduced in 1953.
We started with a prototype specialized for commercial use.
The Rolex Explorer has always been associated with the rigors of international adventure and exploration.
It was famously tested during the 1953 Himalayan expedition by Sir Edmund Hillary and his successor Tenzing Norgay to the summit of Mount Everest.
This highly collectible model, ref. 6298, is extremely attractive and stylish.
The steel 36mm case is in untouched/unpolished condition.
The original (unrestored) dial is in good condition with a very light and even patina.
This is a completely original watch made in 1953.
It also has the original Rolex Swiss made crown.
Fitted with a new high quality Hirsch belt and buckle.
A similar model was issued specially to the 1953 British Everest Expedition, as pictured below.
Although it is in English, I will post a reference site.

Box and documents
As with many vintage watches that are over 70 years old, the original certificates and boxes have been lost or discarded over the years.
However, even though this watch does not have the original box or certificate, the reference numbers, markings, signatures and hallmarks are all correct, indicating that this watch was made circa 1953.
